The Museum of Aviation is situated on 51 acres next to Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia. The facility includes four large exhibit buildings which house some of the 85 historic U.S. Air Force aircraft, missiles, cockpits and award-winning exhibits. The Museum of Aviation is the home of Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame located on the second floor of the Century of Flight Hangar.
August was a busy month for the restoration crew. The B-17 and HU-16 Albatross are the restoration team’s primary focus at the moment.
In these photos, you are looking at the B-17’s ball turret mount that will be restored and repainted, the wiring root on top of the HU-16 Albatross that is in the process of being restored, and the panels and rivets inside the B-17.
The Museum is under construction. New doors, walls, and pavement are all going in, so please excuse our progress. This construction, along with cleaning the outside aircraft, will be ongoing, so please keep an eye on Facebook for updates that may change how you enter exhibit buildings.
July was a busy month for our restoration crew. The HU-16 Albatross is coming along. The crew is working on the top of the aircraft and as you can see in the photos below, they have quite the view while working. In addition to the Albatross, the B-17 is making slow and steady progress. Rivets are being replaced, and the interior, including wiring, is beginning to take shape.
Along with our aircraft, restoration worked diligently to create the Horsa Glider Theater; located in WWII. This theater shows the movie, “Papa Said”, along with scrolling photos of aircraft and exhibits. With just a push of a button, you can view the 20 minute film in the beautifully restored theater.
